This beautiful cowl is simple, soft and the perfect warm accessory for the chilly winter months. Originally it was designed for a very special friend of mine who loves all things purple. I really love the way it turned out, the contrast between the slouchy stockinette stitch and the stiffness of the five by five rib gives it a lovely fullness and warmth when scrunched up around your neck. The rib serves as a collar that can be rolled down or flipped up for added warmth. Hope you enjoy knitting it as much as I have!

A definite quick knit & great for beginners.

Yarn: 2 skeins of YCSF Mulberry Merino (90y/82m per 50g skein)

Needles: 6mm/10 US 24 inch circular needle

Finished measurements: 11 inches wide, 14 inches long

The original was knit with a loosely spun, single ply merino silk blend worsted weight yarn. It was knit a tad loose to allow the single ply to plump up as well as for drape. Be sure to keep this in mind when substituting yarns. You may be required to change needle size depending on your yarn selection.

This pattern is free and can be downloaded here.

Somehow, each year, I lose August. The eighth month has a way of disappearing, leaving me in a panicked rush when I realize tomorrow is September and I’ve yet to finish many of the things I had planned on doing – new blog posts and yarn updates being one of them. August has also been an unproductive dyeing month, mostly due to a minor set back with the mill and their inability to get the fibre from the port because of reasons completely out of their control. So don’t think I’ve forgotten about all you YCSF knitters, I have a few last exciting updates and restocks planned before the cold winter months and stressful 4th year exams take over.

For now I leave you with the bits and pieces of August I managed to find..

One of my most favourite ways to spend a Sunday includes packing a picnic lunch, a bag of knitting, my camera, some good company and a drive. When living here all you really need is a direction in which to drive ( …and a map – so you can find your way home again) and you’re bound to find some place beautiful to spend your day. Recently Jason & I took a day trip along the Sea to Sky Highway where we stumbled upon Porteau Cove, a charming seaside provincial park set in between Lions Bay & Squamish. It has several picnic areas, a small camping area, a boat launch and is a favourite amongst scuba divers. It’s also home to two Olympic Legacy cabins. The rock covered beaches are lined with old stumps and large pieces of driftwood that have washed ashore, making perfect places to sit as you look out on to the ocean and distant land.
